Devin Dixon celebrates his $5,000 victory at East Bay Raceway Park.
What won the race: Retaking the lead from Jeremy Shaw on lap 32, Devin Dixon of Apollo Beach, Fla., led the rest of the way to win Saturday’s Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Winter Series main event at East Bay Raceway Park. Dixon earned $5,000 for winning the Crate Late Model mini-tour’s Winternationals finale. Shaw finished second, with Max Blair third.
Quotable: “The car was good all week,” said Dixon. “We just made a couple adjustments and kept getting better and better and better. The racetrack man was tricky tonight. You could run the bottom, you could run the top and then halfway I got passed by two or three cars and I’m like, ‘man I’m just gonna go to the top where the sprint cars were and keep digging and hope for the best.’”
Key notes: There were five lead changes among three drivers as Dixon, Shaw and Blair swapped the lead through the first 30 laps. ... Shaw, who was making his first-ever appearance at East Bay, lead laps 20-31 before Dixon used a restart to motor back ahead. … Dixon pulled away over the final 10 laps to win by a straightway. … The race was slowed by five cautions: Steve Mathis slowed on lap 14; Freddie Carpenter spun on lap 19; Randy Weaver stopped in turn four on lap 27; Joseph Joiner spun in turn one on lap 30; Walker Arthur spun after contact with Blair on lap 31. … Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., won Thursday’s opener. … The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series invades East Bay’s 44th annual Winternationals Feb. 3-8.
On the move: Drew Kennedy of Lancing, Tenn., started 16th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Dixon’s Capital Race Car is sponsored by Credit Union Remarketing Solutions, Recreational Vehicle Select, Vivid Graphix and Buddy’s Home Furnishings.
