What won the race: Inheriting the lead from Dale McDowell with four laps remaining after his car went up in smoke, Michael Page of Douglasville, Ga., held off a charging Austin Horton to capture the victory in Friday night’s Gobbler 100 opener at Cochran Motor Speedway. Page took the checkers ahead of Horton and Brandon Overton.
Quotable: “I felt pretty good, but he was pretty good too,” Page said, referring to the ill-fated McDowell. “I hate it for him. (McDowell’s car) was blowing oil all over. It was pretty bad. It kept on going for a little bit. I was like, ‘How long is that thing gonna go like that?’”
Key notes: Chickamauga, Ga.'s led the first 25 laps of the 30-lapper off the pole position — staying in front even after dropping a cylinder around the halfway point — before his engine finally gave up to hand Page the top spot. ... McDowell's team reported they would install a backup engine for Saturday's action. ... The feature was originally scheduled for 40 laps but was shortened to 30. … Horton said he "kind of gambled on tires and didn't think it was gonna work starting that far back (10th)," but his late charge prompted him to wonder if he could have made the outcome different by starting closer to the front. ... Scott Bloomquist was an early retiree. ... Ahnna Parkhurst of Evans, Ga., who finished fifth in the Super Late Model feature, took home the victory in the Crate Late Model A-Main on Friday night. ... Saturday's finale is topped by a $15,000-to-win feature. ... DirtonDirt.com subscribers can watch live video coverage for only $10.
On the move: Austin Horton of Newnan, Ga., started 10th and raced up to a second-place finish.
Winner's sponsors: Page’s Stinger Race Car is powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by Baird Transport, Elite Concrete, Baird Towing and T&T Trucking.
Points chase: Parker Martin of Milledgeville, Ga., is Cochran’s Crate Late Model champion.
