What won the race: Inheriting the victory when apparent winner Austin Horton of Newman, Ga., was deemed to have an illegal right rear tire, Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., picked up his second $5,000 payday of the weekend. Whitener crossed the finish line in the runner-up position, 2.190 seconds behind Horton, but was raised to the winner’s position following Horton’s disqualification.

Key notes: Whitener also won the 604 Crate Late Model race earlier Sunday afternoon, which also paid $5,000-to-win. ... It was Whitener’s second National Late Model Super Car Series triumph in a row after the Floridian won the Alabama State Championship at EAMS in September. … Fifteen cars finished the race, with 13 completing all 50 laps. … John Baker spun while battling Clint Smith for fourth on lap 18. After going to the rear of the field, Baker rallied back to ninth before eventually finishing 11th. . … East Alabama hosted the NLMSCS as part of the 45th annual National 100 weekend.

On the move: Travis Pennington of Stapleton, Ga., started 12th and finished fourth.

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (Nov. 3) — Inheriting the victory when apparent winner Austin Horton of Newman, Ga., was deemed to have an illegal right rear tire, Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., picked up his second $5,000 payday of the weekend. Whitener crossed the finish line in the runner-up position, 2.190 seconds behind Horton, but was raised to the winner’s position following Horton’s disqualification.

Dennis Hale was bumped to second, while Parker Martin, who crossed the stripe fourth, was lifted to third. Travis Pennington and Jody Knowles completed the top five in revamped rundown.
