What won the race: Leading every lap, polesitter Scott Shirey of Swansea, S.C., raced to his first Blue Ridge Outlaws feature win of 2019 Saturday at Sumter Speedway. Shirey, who qualified second and earned the pole via his dash win, finished ahead of Chuck Smith and Derick Lane in earning $1,200.
Quotable: “It was a real good car,” Shirey said. “We were struggling with the choice to make, what to do with tires and made one change on the car. (The crew) made the choice and it turned out to be the right one, so I was happy with the car. It was a good night. I was just hoping to make no mistakes ‘cause I hadn’t been out in the lead in awhile.”
Key notes: Shirey joined Ricky Weeks of Rutherfordton, N.C., Kerry Gibbons of Manning, S.C., and Austin Mintz of Hopkins, S.C., as a series winner at Sumter this season. … The series returns to Sumter on Nov. 9. … Five events remain for the Blue Ridge tour after Sumter.
