Colten Burdette celebrates his $5,000 Hillbilly 50 victory.
What won the race: Polesitter Colten Burdette of Parkersburg, W.Va., dominated Friday’s Hillbilly 50 at Tyler County Speedway to capture $5,000 in an attrition-filled race for steel-block engine Late Models. He led the entire distance, never receiving a serious challenge.
Quotable: “I sure love this place,” Burdette said. ”It’s sure been good to me over the past couple years. I could run high or low. It was a little choppy through the center, but the car didn’t seem to mind it. It felt fast all over it.”
Key notes: Burdette, who dominated the said he thought his season was over after recent engine problems, but he decided to put his brother's modified engine in his Late Model for the Tyler County weekend and it paid off. .... Clint Keenan came out on top of a tight battle for the runner-up spot; he crossed the finish line over a straightaway behind Burdette. ... Eddie Carrier Jr. and Zach Milbee both held the second spot but suffered mechanical woes. ... Rick Williams and Joe Brewer were among other contenders falling by the wayside after breaking. ... Freddie Carpenter drove a Kenneth Howell-owned car. ... Shane Hitt drove his son Logan's reguar ride. ... The event kicked off the three-day Labor Day weekend extravaganza at Tyler County. ... Among other divisions, Super Late Models chase a $5,000-to-win purse on Saturday and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series rolls into town Sunday for the $30,000-to-win Hillbilly 100.
Winner's sponsors: Burdette’s Rocket Chassis is sponsored by KB Carburetors (his car was equipped with the motor from his brother K.C.’s modified).
