Greg Oakes raced to his richest career payday at Eriez Speedway.
What won the race: Outside front-row starter Greg Oakes of Franklinville, N.Y., led flag-to-flag at Eriez Speedway on Sunday to capture the Mike Farr Memorial for Super Late Models. Oakes collected $4,100 in purse money and another $2,655 in lap money to give him a career-richest payday.
Quotable: "I was nervous. I seen somebody working underneath me there," Oakes said. "The last six, seven laps I moved down just a little bit. I felt like there was just a little more traction there, like the top was starting to give up, I think our left-rear tire was starting to give up a little bit. I was just so happy to see the checkered come out. This one wore me out.
Key notes: The 45-year-old Oakes topped his previous single-race, career-high payday of $4,000 on Sept. 25, 2015, at Eriez for the unsanctioned September Sweep. ... Oakes notched his second victory of the season; his first came June 22 at Stateline Speedway in Busti, N.Y. ... A lap-17 red flag appeared for a medical emergency on the grandstand side. ... Among cautions was a lap-18 yellow for a father-son tangle between Bump and Easton Hedman. ... Max Blair, a previous Farr Memorial winner, broke his car's rear end in heat action and scratched for the night; he won the Crate Late Model feature. ... The 41-lap event was originally set for May 26 as an Ultimate Northeast event but was rescheduled — minus the sanctioning — because of weather. ... The race honored the late shock rep and former co-owner of Genesis Racing Shocks who died in October 2016. ... Eriez was racing on the 58th anniversary of its founding.
Winner's sponsors: Oakes drives a Rocket Chassis with a Clements Racing Engine and sponsorship from Yorkshire Battery, Adawn Express, Ungerman Sand & Gravel, RG Mason Auctions, Amores Used Cars, Freedom Tire, Napoli’s Pizza, Tidd’s Roll-Off, Marcos Pizza & Subs and Dave Rice Construction.
Points chase: Track points haven't been updated since April 27 when Dave Hess Jr. was the leader.
Current weather: Clear, 74°F
Car count: 27
Fast qualifier: Chad Wright
Time: 15.045 seconds
Heat race winners: Chad Wright, Alex Ferree, Chub Frank
Editor's note: Corrects that Wright's fast time wasn't a track record.
