Jake Teague won Friday at Smoky Mountain, his second straight series win.
What won the race: Pouncing when leader Mark Whitener made contact with a lapped car with two laps remaining, second-running Jake Teague of Petros, Tenn., grabbed the lead as they raced toward the white flag and held on over the final circuit to win Friday’s American Crate All-Star Series main event at Smoky Mountain Speedway. Teague finished 1.382 seconds ahead of Whitener in capturing his second straight series victory and a $2,000 payday. Greg Martin finished third.
Key notes: Second-starting Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., led the first two laps before slowing on the backstretch and pulling off the track. … After inheriting the lead, polesitter Jensen Ford suffered mechanical issues as well and surrendered the lead on lap 10 when he pulled into the pit area. … Whitener, a Floridian making a rare start at Smoky Mountain, inherited the lead and held it until making incidental contact with the lapped car. … The 30-lap feature went caution free. … Nineteen cars finished with race with 16 completing all 30 laps. … Greg Martin picked up the third spot from Trevor Sise with five laps to go. … Teague’s previous series win came May 18 at Wartburg (Tenn.) Speedway. … This was the first race of the tour’s weekend tripleheader.
