What won the race: Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga., notched his first victory with the Blount Motorsports team Friday in Southern All Star Racing Series action at Oglethorpe Speedway Park. Roberts took the lead from polesitter Kyle Hardy on the sixth lap and led the rest of the way.
Quotable: "It's been a spell. It's good to get a win. I think we had a monkey on a back, a whole bundle of 'em," winner Casey Roberts said. "But we just kept plugging away at it. These guys have been super cool. (Car owner Larry) Garner hasn't said one bad word toward us. He's been real patient, and I appreciate that."
Key notes: Roberts, who joined the Maryville, Tenn.-based Blount team late last season, earned his first victory with the team after some near-misses. ... Over Labor Day weekend at Tazewell (Tenn.) Speedway, Roberts was leading with four laps remaining when a cut tire knocked him out of contention. ... OSP runner-up Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Va., was making his Oglethorpe debut. ... Hardy’s fast time set the record for the reconfigured oval. ... Cautions in the feature included a turn-two tangle between Kerry Gibbons and Tristan Sealy on the 16th lap. ... The Southern All Stars visited OSP for the fourth time in series history and first since 2007. ... Oglethorpe hosted the first race of a weekend doubleheader for the SAS, as the tour will be at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvester, Ga., for the annual Rebel Yell on Saturday.
Winner's sponsors: Roberts drives a Blount Motorsports Rocket Chassis powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engines and sponsored by Stowers (CAT) Machinery Corp., Blount Excavating, Massey Electric, Tennessee RV, Turner Hydraulics, Ole Ben Franklin Motors, Food City, and The Wine and Spirits Cellar.
Points chase: Entering the two-race Georgia weekend, Jay Scott (924) of Fayetteville, Tenn., led Ray McElhiney (738), Mark Dodson (724), Eric Hickerson (596) and Brad Skinner (526).
