R.J. Conley wrapped up the Buckeye Week points at Portsmouth.
What won the race: R.J. Conley of Wheelersburg, Ohio, completed a sweep of the final weekend of Buckeye Late Model Dirt Week on Saturday at Portsmouth Raceway Park. Conley, who overtook polesitter Jared Hawkins early, earned $5,000 in adding a victory to Friday's win at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex.
Quotable: “I know I got into (Jared) Hawkins on the start of that race, but man I tell you, when you’re running that hard you’re giving everything you’ve got,” said Conley. “You just give it all you’ve got that all you can do. We was going for the win.”
Key notes: Mike Maresca won the six-car dash over fast qualifier Jared Hawkins, who started sixth. ... Jared Miley pitted twice for flat tires, once for a left rear flat while running seventh and once for a right rear flat while running sixth. ... The win also gave Conley a provisional for the Dirt Track World Championship at Portsmouth on Oct. 19-20. “Of course I’m gonna get out there and try to make it on my own, but it’s always nice to have that in your pocket,” said Conley. ... Portsmouth hosted the finale of the fourth annual Buckeye Late Model Dirt Week. … Ultimate's Mid-Ohio Valley and Battle of the Bluegrass co-sanctioned the series races. … The miniseries kicked off last week with Eddie Carrier Jr. (Atomic Speedway), R.J. Conley (Moler Raceway Park) and Chub Frank (NAPA Wayne County Speedway) collecting wins. … The first four races paid $3,000 to win, while the finale paid $5,000 to win. … Portsmouth hosts the 24th annual Fred Dillow Memorial on Aug. 18.
