What won the race: Back in a Late Model for the first time in eight years, Scott Rhoades of Wheat Ridge, Colo., led every lap from the outside from row Saturday at El Paso County Raceway to claim his first career High Plains Late Model Series victory. Rhoades outran Scott Lewis to earn $1,000.
Key notes: It was the first time in a Late Model since 2010 for Rhoades, who has driven sprint cars for the last three seasons. … Rhoades drove a brand new Rocket that he put together over the last three weeks. … The last time Rhoades competed in a Late Model, he and Lewis had a one-two finish, with Lewis finishing first and Rhoades the runner up. … Mike Jensen and Brandon Lewis failed to start the main event. … It was the High Plains tour’s second race of the season and first of four planned visits to El Paso County this season. … The series returns on Aug. 31, Oct. 20 and Oct. 21.
