Mike Spatola heads to victory Sunday evening at Spoon River.
What won the race: Outside front-row starter Mike Spatola of Manhattan, Ill., outran Ryan Unzicker at Spoon River Speedway on Sunday to earn his first career Midwest Big 10 Series victory. Spatola earned $2,000 at the Gary Cook Jr. Memorial.
Key notes: Spatola won for the second time this season; he previously won a weekly show at Fairbury (Ill.) American Legion Speedway on April 28. … An early wreck eliminated Cole Swibold. ... Unzicker lowered the track record in time trials. … Spoon River hosted the second of three Memorial Day weekend events for the Midwest Big 10 Series, which opened its season after a pair of earlier rainouts. ... Daryn Klein won his first Big 10 event Saturday in Lincoln, Ill., while Monday's action will be contested at Macon (Ill.) Speedway. … Spoon River hosts the Big 10 finale on Sept. 2 and the UMP DIRTcar Summernationals on June 21.
