Brian Shirley digs down low en route to his Belleville victory.
What won the race: Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., earned a $3,000 victory Friday at Belle-Clair Speedway in the 30-lap MARS debut at the fifth-mile fairgrounds oval. He beat Rusty Griffaw to the finish line by more than two seconds while polesitter Tanner English settled for third.
Key notes: Shirley notched his ninth career series victory. ... Ten drivers completed 30 laps. ... .MARS returned to action after a nine-week layoff. ... The Belle-Clair series debut is the first of seven events scheduled in Illinois this season for MARS, now under Chris Tilley's ownership. ...
