What won the race: Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., dominated the second half of Saturday's 50-lap National Late Model Super Car Series race at East Alabama Motor Speedway, running away to a convincing 5.957-second victory over polesitter Dalton Cook. Whitener earned $3,000 for his second series triumph of the season.
Key notes: Whitener's first series win came March 24 at All-Tech Raceway in Ellisville, Fla. ... Thirteen of the 20 starters finished the race, with Whitener lapping up to the fifth-place car. ... It was the first of five races at EAMS for the series which is under the direction of EAMS owner Billy Thomas, who purchased the remnants of the National Late Model Series and the Southern Thunder Late Model Series and combined the two circuits into a single tour. … East Alabama hosts its next NLMSCS race on May 26.
