Joey Coulter (2) fights off Michael Brown (24-D) in Clash action.
What won the race: Joey Coulter of Troutman, N.C., led every circuit of Friday night's wild 40-lap Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series-sanctioned Skyler Trull Memorial at Carolina Speedway to pick up a $5,000 victory. He beat Ben Watkins to the finish line for his first-ever triumph on the regional tour.
Key notes: A former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series regular, Coulter's only previous Super Late Model win came last August in an Ultimate Southeast event at Crossville (Tenn.) Speedway. ... The event was slowed by numerous caution flags, including a final yellow on the last circuit that set up a one-lap shootout. ... With six laps remaining Kyle Hardy and Ben Watkins collided while battling for second, resulting in Hardy spinning. ... G.R. Smith and Ross Bailes were battling for second during the feature when Smith caught a rut while bidding for the lead, bounced over the cushion and made contact with Bailes as he attempted to keep his car off the wall. “I hate that Ross was caught up when I hit the hole,” Smith wrote on Facebook about the incident. Smith was knocked from contention while Bailes pulled off after there was apparent uncertainty over whether he should restart second. ... Oregon's Justin Duty scratched from the feature.
Winner's sponsors: Coulter's RumRunner Racing Longhorn Chassis has a Cornett Racing Engine and is sponsored by Broward Armature & Generator, CIV Driver Optimization, Molecule, Race-Fan, Simpson Products, Darrell Gwynn Foundation, Burning Bright Band, Dean Guitars, Shell Shock and Tempest Cycles.
Points chase: Michael Brown (240) entered the night leading Donald Bradsher (210), Adam Yarbrough (203), Ross Bailes (192) and Johnny Pursley (191).
