What won the race: Midwestern standout Rusty Schlenk of McClure, Ohio, invaded Misssissippi and came away with a $2,000 victory Friday at Columbus Speedway. Schlenk won his first Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series event by two seconds over polesitter Tyler Erb.
Key notes: Schlenk started third in the 30-lap feature. ... Schlenk, who plans to follow the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series in 2018, had 21 victories in four states last season. The Columbus triumph was the first of '18 for the two-time DIRTcar weekly points champion. ... Runner-up Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, fell one spot shy of winning his second straight MSCCS event; he captured the tour opener the previous weekend at Jackson Motor Speedway. ... Seventeen drivers completed 30 laps. ... The race was the first of a weekend doubleheader for the Mississippi tour, which heads to Whynot Motorsports Park on Saturday for a $3,000-to-win show. ... The first 50 kids ages 6-12 will be admitted free at Whynot.
