Brandon Overton acknowledges the crowd at Boyd's Speedway following his second Gobbler victory.
What won the race: Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., marched steadily forward from the 12th starting spot to grab the lead from Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga., shortly after halfway and score a $5,000 victory in Saturday afternoon's Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series-sanctioned Gobbler at Boyd's Speedway.
Quotable: “We’ve been working on it all day trying to get it better and better,” race winner Brandon Overton said. “We’re always pretty good in the feature and the track kinda come around to us. Hat’s off to Dale (McDowell) and everyone at Boyd’s Speedway for putting this on. You’re not gonna race like that many times in the day, that’s for sure.”
Key notes: Overton went from sixth to second during a stretch from lap 11 to 17. ... Overton won the Gobbler for the second consecutive year. The 2016 event was his first win for the Dream Racing team; Saturday marked his 20th overall triumph of '17 with the Crossville, Tenn.-based operation. ... McIntosh, the 2017 SNBS champion who started from the pole, led the opening lap before giving way to Michael Page on the second lap. ... McIntosh, who later inherited the lead when Page retired with front suspension trouble, settled for a runner-up finish in his final Blount Motorsports start. “These guys have been behind me the last three years. It’s been so much fun. ... We’ve become a family really and we’re all good friends and that’s not gonna go away,” McIntosh said. ... Casey Roberts has been named McIntosh's replacement. ... WoO Rookie of the Year Devin Moran finished fifth in Tommy Pope's car. ... Overton also won the Crate Late Model feature. ... Cory Hedgecock won the Gobbler's Limited Late Model feature, his 28th win of the season. ... The SNBS closed its season with the 29th Gobbler, which was held at Cleveland (Tenn.) Speedway for its first 27 years. ... With the threat of inclement weather, officials moved up Saturday’s start time.
