What won the race: Surviving a last-lap slide job from David Payne, fellow Murphy, N.C., driver Shawn Chastain earned a $4,053 victory in the 51-lap Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series at Tri-County Racetrack. Chastain took the lead from Casey Roberts on the 18th lap and held on for the Tar Heel 50 victory.
Quotable: "I thought we was probably going to wreck," winner Shawn Chastain said after the late duel with David Payne. "We've got bad blood anyway, I believe; maybe we can get past it ... I had a good time. It was fun and I'm just tickled to death to be here. Thank the Lord."
