Dale McDowell led flag-to-flag for a $5,000 victory at Boyd's Speedway.
What won the race: Leading all 50 laps, outside front-row starter Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga., outran 10th-starting Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., to capture a $5,000 Schaeffer Oil Spring Nationals victory at Dixie Speedway.
Quotable: "Aero is huge anywhere you go now. You can look at the shape of the cars," said McDowell. "I feel like there's some areas that we're not where some of our competition (is) on taking advantage of the air. That's a big thing that's changed in the last couple of years ... it's big. So when you get to lapped traffic, it's very important to be able to maneuver. They worked on it and it's pretty decent."
Key notes: McDowell scored his fifth career Spring Nationals victory and the third overall win of his 2017 campaign; McDowell also won the Spring Nationals stop at Dixie in 2014. … Overton was the winner of Friday’s series event at Boyd’s Speedway. … The race was slowed by two cautions. … The first yellow flag waved on lap 12 for second-running Casey Roberts. … Another caution fell on lap 15. … The series wraps up its 2017 season on Sunday at nearby Rome Speedway.
On the move: Brandon Overton advanced from the 10th starting spot to finish runner-up; Michael Page of Douglasville, Ga., charged from the 13th starting position to run fourth.
Winner's sponsors: McDowell’s Sweet-Bloomquist Race Car is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Textron Off Road, New Era Industrial, Boyd’s Speedway, Will Kinzer Foundation, Cometic Gasket and Klotz Lubricants.
Points chase: Brandon Overton (1,534 points) leaves Dixie with a slim 12-point point lead over Donald McIntosh (1,522). Shanon Buckingham (1,456), Michael Chilton (1,452) and Ricky Weiss (1,444) round out the top five.
