Riley Hickman tunes up before his third victory of 2014.
What won the race: Polesitter Riley Hickman grabbed the point at the outset and led all 50 laps for his first SAS victory.
Key notes: Hickman now has three victories on the season, each coming on a different tour; he previously won the SRRS-sanctioned Cabin Fever 40 at Boyd's and the Tuckasee Toilet Bowl Classic opener at Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway. ... The feature was slowed by four cautions; sixteen drivers completed all 50 laps. ... The three fastest drivers in each of the four qualifying groups were locked in the 50-lap feature; remaining drivers ran consolation races to secure feature starting spots. ... A healthy crowd gathered for the tour's traditional season-opening Shamrock, which moved from Cleveland (Tenn.) Speedway to nearby Boyd's. ... Cleveland's future has been in doubt for months amid bankruptcy proceedings. ... Boyd's was purchased during the off-season by David Duplissey and Dale McDowell, a long-time Chattanooga, Tenn.-area racer.
On the move: After winning the second consolation race, Skip Arp charged from 14th to finish fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Hickman's CVR Race Car is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine with sponsorship from Hickman Manufacturing, MRC Racing Components, American Billet, Tucker Mobile Home Service, VP Racing Fuels, Allstar Graphics and RH Designs
Points chase: Hickman notched his first SAS championship in 2013 and begins 2014 atop the standings once again following his victory.
