What won the race: Eddie Martin of Stilwell, Okla., led the final 13 laps of the 25-lap feature for his first career victory on the Sooner Late Model Series, collecting $750 for his efforts.
Quotable: “I kind of want to say this was destined,” Martin said shortly after picking up his first career SLMS victory. ”This is the fourth (SLMS) event we have run. The first one we ran fourth, the second on we ran third, the third race we ran second. I felt like we had no option but to try and win.”
Key notes: The series has had five different winners in as many 2016 events. ... David Hennan led the first seven laps. ... Al Purkey took command for laps 8-12, but fell off the pace slightly over the second half of the feature due to mechanical issues. ... Michael Foreman did not start the feature. ... Caney Valley welcomes Sooner competitors again on Oct. 1.
Winner's sponsors: Martin's GRT Race Car is powered by a BMS Performance Engine and sponsored by CHC Barns.
Points chase: Second-place finisher Mark Harrison leads the series standings.
Car count: 22
Heat race winners: Jacob Magee, Al Purkey, Jason Redman
Next series race: July 16, Brill's Motor Speedway (Meeker, OK) $750
