What won the race: Ninth-starting Charlie Sandercock of Belleville, Ontario, overtook leader Brandon Mowat in traffic on the 24th of 50 laps and held the point over the second half of the distance to record a $1,500 Go Nuclear Late Model Challenge Series victory at Brighton Speedway. Sandercock's margin of victory over eighth-starting Phil Potts was 3.093 seconds.
Quotable: “I obviously wasn’t looking forward to a caution,” Sandercock said. “I felt we were moving through lapped traffic really well and I didn’t know if the guys behind me were following me right through. I really didn’t want that caution, but we still made out alright.”
Key notes: Sandercock is the reigning track champion at Brighton; he also won the track's Great Crate Race in 2015. ... Mowat led the first 23 circuits after starting second. ... The 50-lapper was slowed by early cautions on laps 2 and 6; the final yellow on lap 34 erased a five-second lead for Sandercock. ... The tour returned to action for the first time since April 24. ... Brighton welcomes the tour again on Sept. 24 for the 65-lap, $6,000-to-win Great Crate Race.
On the move: Kyle Sopaz improved 14 positions to finish sixth and earn the Scott Jeffrey's Performance Hard Charger award.
Winner's sponsors: Sandercock's No. 57 Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Bellevue Fabricating, Deerhaven Farm and Garden, Image Landscape Contracting, Excel Tower Service, and Jeff Harrison Farms.
Points chase: John Waters headed the standings entering the event after one series race; he did not enter at Brighton.
