John Waters emerges from his car after his Merrittville victory.
What won the race: Completing a Sunday-Monday RUSH tour sweep, John Waters of Whitesville, N.Y., overtook polesitter Bryce Davis on lap 16 on Victoria Day at Merrittville Speedway. In making the winning pass, Waters sliced between the leader and a lapped car hugging the inside guardrail, making contact with Davis in taking command.
Quotable: “It was chaos with the lapped cars. The door was open there and I drove it in and I kind of slid up and in to Bryce. I didn’t want to do that. We had a good enough car not to do that,” Waters said in victory lane. “We were just biding our time waiting for the right moment I apologize to him and his crew.”
Key notes: Waters built a straightaway lead after taking command but it was erased by a lap-27 caution for Jeff Dayman's spin. ... Waters also won Sunday's RUSH event at Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario. ... Early cautions appeared for spins by Travis Martineau (lap six). Colton Ledingham (lap eight) and Steve Dixon (lap nine). ... The night's action was sponsored by Zavitz Financial Strategies and ZFS Benefit Solutions.
Winner's sponsors: Waters drove a Dale LeBarron-owned No. 11 sponsored by Atkins Appraisal, Troupscreek Heating, Fox Shocks, Fastline Performance, Renegade Forestry Management, Close Racing Supply and Sunoco/Insinger Performance Race Fuels.
