Jay Sale rebounded from three tough outings with a victory.
What won the race: Breaking away from a back-and-forth battle in the first half of the race, seventh-starting Jay Sale of Edmond, Okla., led the final 13 laps of Friday's 25-lap Sooner Late Model Series feature at Southern Oklahoma Speedway. Sale topped David Hennan, who led twice for four laps early.
Quotable: “I could not get the car to slow down and turn in turn one, so I knew the only thing I could do was try and get underneath him and it just stuck. I got on it and it held," Sale said. “I was pretty good in (turns) three and four and terrible in one and two. We went back and forth three or four times. He went back around me and I was back around him.”
Key notes: Sale got his first victory on the first-year tour in debuting a new car; he destroyed a car in his last start. ... “We had a crash, then the car caught on fire and we crashed again," Sale said. "This is our first good finish for the season.” ... A lap-four yellow flag waved when Chris Haynes hit the turn-two wall, setting up the restart that allowed Sale to start challenging Hennan. ... Harlan Sale, Damian Patocka and Mark Brill scratched from the main event.
On the move: Sale came from seventh to first.
Winner's sponsors: Sale's Rocket Chassis is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored by Sale Physical Therapy and Johnson & Son Concrete.
Points chase: Mark Harris has 535 points to lead Jay Sale (480) and Dalton Ragsdale (460).
Car count: 14
Heat race winners: Dalton Ragsdale, David Hennan
Next series race: June 4, Oklahoma Sports Park (Ada, OK) $750
