Bobby Pierce heads to victory in Quincy's first Big 10 race.
What won the race: Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., led all 30 laps from outside the front row for a $2,000 victory at Quincy. Pierce cleared polesitter Denny Woodworth exiting turn four on the first lap, built a straightaway lead by halfway and won the caution-free feature in just over 10 minutes. Runner-up Mark Burgtorf, who started fourth, was six seconds behind at the finish as Pierce lapped all but three competitors.
Key notes: The Scottie 40 victory was Pierce's first on the Midwest Big 10 Series. ... He has 10 victories in his last 17 starts overall. ... Hometown driver Rickey Frankel, winner of Quincy's last two features, was the first retiree. ... Sixth-starting Kevin Weaver of Gibson City, Ill., retired to the infield with eight laps remaining. ... Jake Little had a rough night; he lost a wheel running in a transfer spot in the second heat, then spun in the consolation race.. ... Quincy ran its first Big 10 race; the four-track added Quincy to its lineup for 2014. ... Macon, Jacksonville and Lincoln Speedways also host series events. ... The event honored the track founder and is presented by Bank of Quincy.
On the move: Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., rallied from his 16th starting spot to finish third.
