Ryan Unzicker led all 25 laps from the pole in the first feature.
What won the race: Capturing the first of two Twisted Twin 25s on a rough and tumble surface at La Salle Speedway, polesitter Ryan Unzicker led all 25 laps for a $5,000 victory. Extending his MARS Championship Series points lead, Unzicker took the checkers 1.431 seconds ahead of Brandon Sheppard for his fourth series victory of the season.
Quotable: "Last weekend sucked. I don't know what the hell happened, but we just couldn't hit anything and just bad draws this, that and the other," Unzicker said. "We had a short week and we just busted, you know, we went to work and showed up. My guys showed up after work and we busted tail till 9:30, 10 every night just making sure we had a good piece for this weekend."
Key notes: Ryan Unzicker notched his 21st career MARS victory. ... A five-car inversion after the first feature set the lineup for the next 25-lapper, run immediately after. ... Four drivers scratched or had start-and-parks while several drivers retired early on the rugged surface; eight drivers completed 25 laps and many drivers waved the white flag and pulled to the infield mid-feature. ... A single lap-19 caution appeared for a slowing Wil Herrington. ... The nine-minute race concluded at 9:26 p.m. ... Dylan Thornton and Bob Gardner elected to start on the tail while Myles Moos and Frank Heckenast Jr. scratched. ... Daniel Adam drove a No. 3jr scheme honoring late racer Bill Waite Jr. (Adam Family Motorsports occupies Waite's former auto repair shop). ... La Salle's first racing weekend of the season (the others were postponed or rained out) opened four-race Labor Day weekend for MARS. ... The MARS event, rescheduled after an Aug. 14 rainout, was sponsored by Action Truck Parts.
On the move: Mike Spatola of Manhattan, Ill., started 10th and finished sixth.
