Ethan Dotson (74x) nips Daulton Wilson (58) at the finish line.
What won the race: After Daulton Wilson survived a last-lap bobble that sent Bobby Pierce spinning on lap 50, ninth-starting Ethan Dotson of Bakersfield, Calif., raced around Wilson on the ensuing restart and nipped him at the line by 0.161 of a second to win the World of Outlaws Late Model Series debut at Shelby County Speedway. Dotson led only the final lap to earn $20,000, his first World of Outlaws victory of the season and second of his career.
Quotable: "The (high) line I was running, nobody was really running it down there (in turns three and four). Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good," Dotson said. "I hate it for Bobby (Pierce) and Daulton (Wilson), but the way it’s been going for me lately, I’ll take a little luck."
Key notes: Polesitter Daulton Wilson led twice for 37 laps (6-20, 29-50) until spinning in turn one after taking the initial white flag, collecting 15th-starting Bobby Pierce, who was hot on his heels. Wilson's brakes appeared to lock up at corner entry, sending his car sideways and leaving Pierce nowhere to go as Pierce's right front hit Wilson's left front, straightening Wilson's car back out while Pierce spun to a stop. ... The late caution setup a two-lap sprint to the checkers, allowing Dotson to rip around the outside and pass Wilson on the final lap for his first Outlaws victory since April 11, 2025, at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway. ... Dotson captured his second victory of the season, his first since Jan. 14 in an unsanctioned Wild West Shootout feature at Central Arizona Raceway in Casa Grande. ... Nick Hoffman briefly took the lead from Wilson (laps 21-28) before Wilson regained control. ... Second-starting Dennis Erb Jr. led the opening five laps before mechanical issues running second on lap 14. ... There were four lead changes among Erb, Wilson, Hoffman and Dotson. ... Besides Wilson's late spin and Erb's issue, the race was slowed two other times, first on lap 13 when Trey Mills and Logan Zarin tangled in turn four as they battled for 11th. ... Eli Johnson retired with an overheating engine on lap 20. ... The 50-lapper lasted 21 minutes with 20 starters completing the distance.
On the move: Winner Ethan Dotson started ninth.
