What won the race: Regaining the lead on a lap-21 restart, Hudson O'Neal of Martinsville, Ind., led the rest of Wednesday's 50-lap FloRacing Night in America event at Mason City Motor Speedway for a $20,000 payday. The second-starting O'Neal, who led the first six laps before Nick Hoffman led laps 7-20, took the checkers 0.361 of a second ahead of the fourth-starting Hoffman, who regained the runner-up spot from seventh-starting Bobby Pierce on the final lap.
Quotable: "This K&L Rumley car has been good the last two nights. It was good last night and the driver didn't do his job in the heat race, and then cost us at least a second place there at the very end, jumping the cushion again," O'Neal said. "So I was just trying to make sure, telling myself, you know, 'It's better to be consistent around that top than it is to be track record speed.'"
Key notes: Hudson O'Neal, who blamed himself for falling short the previous night at Marshalltown Speedway, notched his eighth career FloRacing tour victory. ... O'Neal's first Flo victory came July 22 at Fairbury. ... With 14th-finishing Jake Timm slowing in turn one as the checkered flag fell, runner-up Nick Hoffman smashed into Timm's car, damaging both cars significantly. ... Hoffman's car also took a shot from Bobby Pierce when they made contact in turn two with four laps remaining. ... After losing the lead, Hoffman drew within a half-second of O'Neal with 15 laps to go but never got as close until the final lap. ... Hoffman said he was "pretty pissed" in the late battle with Pierce, who said he "probably didn't give Nick enough room." The pair appeared to discuss it after victory lane photos. ... Three cautions slowed the race, the first two for Tyler Erb with a lap-20 flat and lap-21 spin (Erb salvaged a 10th-place finish). ... On the 26th lap, Ethan Dotson's slide job took him into the turn-two fence and he slowed on the backstretch before exiting. ... The 21-minute feature concluded at 10:11 p.m. ... Tim McCreadie retired just after the green flag. ... Michael Leach made an appearance in the No. 77 Spire Motorsports entry as Carson Hocevar had prior NASCAR obligations. ... Mason City and Tuesday's event at Marshalltown (won by Bobby Pierce) were part of Iowa Speedweek and a miniseries points fund offering a $10,000 total payout, with $2,500 to the driver who earns the most points over the four-race Iowa stretch that continues at the World of Outlaws-sanctioned Hawkeye 100 at Maquoketa Speedway.
On the move: Ricky Thornton Jr. of Chandler, Ariz., started 10th and finished fourth.
