What won the race: Finally finding a way past race-long pacesetter Justin Zeitner on lap 27, Blair Nothdurft of Renner, S.D., was victorious in Saturday night’s 30-lap Gail and Karen Hampel Memorial at Adams County Speedway. The 25-year-old driver beat Zeitner to the finish line by 1.526 seconds to earn a $5,000 top prize in the event sanctioned by both the Malvern Bank East and West tours.
Quotable: “The first time I came here we couldn't make it out of the B-main,” Nothdurft said. “This is my third time here now, and we’re standing on the front stretch, so I think besides (previously) hating the place, I like it, so we'll keep coming back.”
Key notes: Nothdurft’s triumph was the third of his career on the Malvern Bank East Series and his first in West Series action. He also won for the first time at Adams County. … Starting third, Northdurft reached second with a lap-10 pass of Kale Kosiski. He briefly lost the spot to Bill Leighton on laps 16-17 before steadily turning up the heat on Zeitner, who succumbed to the pressure when Nothdurft dived low through turns one and two to assume command on lap 27. … Nothdurft, who won the Malvern Bank East Series season opener on May 23 at Maquoketa (Iowa) Speedway, left Adams County leading the points standings on both the East and West tours. … Zeitner held off Leighton to finish second after leading laps 1-26. … Leighton advanced from the 14th starting spot to place third. … Jesse Sobbing, who entered the night leading the Malvern Bank West points, was running seventh when he spun between turns three and four to bring out one of the race’s caution flags on lap 14.
On the move: Dylan Sillman of Alvo, Neb., started 22nd and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Nothdurft’s Bargain Barn Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Pro Power Racing Engine and sponsored by Bargain Barn Tire Center, Western Provisions Inc., Asphalt Pros, Glanzer Trucking LLC, Howe Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, Katie Day of Maloney Real Estate, Grandpa Ben’s Ranch, Ohlins by Longhorn Dynamics and Slicker Graphics.
