What won the race: Second-starting Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., used a three-wide backstretch pass on the opening circuit and led all 38 completed laps before a storm forced an early conclusion to Sunday's World of Outlaws Late Model Series feature at Nodak Speedway. Pierce was ahead of Nick Hoffman by 1.861 seconds before the race was called as rain began to fall under a lap-39 caution, giving Pierce the $20,000 paycheck and fifth straight World of Outlaws victory.
Key notes: Pierce extended his points lead in capturing his 20th overall feature win of the season and 15th on the World of Outlaws, his fifth consecutive since June 20 at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, Wis. ... Pierce has won nine of his last 10 starts overall dating back to June 4's Dream prelim at Eldora Speedway, earning nearly $250,000 over that span. ... Sixth-starting Nick Hoffman advanced from fifth on lap 25 to take second from Tim McCreadie on lap 30, then reduced Pierce's advantage by nearly two seconds until the fourth and final yellow flag flew on lap 39 just before rain fell. ... McCreadie, who overcame a flat right-rear tire in qualifying, marched from his 15th starting spot and held second from laps 13-29, but last year's race winner never seriously challenged Pierce. ... Dennis Erb Jr. passed Dustin Sorensen for fourth on the 31st lap while polesitter Tyler Erb dropped Sorensen to sixth on lap 34. ... Ethan Dotson briefly led in the first set of turns before Pierce made his winning pass inside; Dotson faded to finish 13th. ... The first caution came on lap five when sixth-running Jonathan Davenport got sideways in turn four, sending Daulton Wilson spinning to avoid heavy contact; Wilson soldiered to a 16th-place finish with heavy right-front damage after spinning again on lap 19. ... Gordy Gundaker pulled off under the lap-five caution as the race's first retiree after slowing with mechanical issues in his heat race. ... Davenport slowed with a flat left-rear tire for the second stoppage on lap 13 before rallying to ninth. ... Eli Johnson slowed for the final caution on lap 39 just before rain and hail began to fall. ... The 38 laps lasted just shy of 21 minutes with 19 starters on the lead lap. ... The night's consolation race was scrapped after Austin Harris and Randy Sandvick scratched.
On the move: Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., started 15th and finished third.
