Hayden Cardwell (17) and Joseph Brown (92) battle for the lead.
What won the race: Overtaking race-long leader and polesitter Joseph Brown for good on the 29th lap, Hayden Cardwell of Knoxville, Tenn., led the rest of Saturday's 50-lap Harvey Jones Memorial at All-Tech Raceway for a $10,000 payday. The fourth-starting Cardwell notched his first Rogers-Dabbs Crate Racin' USA 604 Series victory of the season in taking the checkers 2.831 seconds ahead of Brown.
Quotable: "That's the best I've ever seen this place. We could really run all over it," Cardwell said. "We had a good car. I think some of those guys went too hard, too early. I was just trying to ride. I love this place. I wish we could come back every week."
Key notes: Hayden Cardwell, a $30,000 Powell Family Memorial winner at All-Tech last fall, and 10 other drivers completed 50 laps. ... Points leader Joseph Brown settled for second after leading laps 10-23 and 25-28. ... Fourth-place finisher Mark Whitener led the first nine laps. ... Third-starting Trynt Lloyd slipped back and retired after 31 laps while running 11th. ... The event honored Harvey Jones, a Georgia Racing Hall of Famer whose racing career began in 1949.
On the move: Griffin Smith of Eatonton, Ga., started 23rd and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Cardwell's Chip Vineyard-owned CVR Race Car is powered by a DJ's Performance Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Vineyard Landscape and Outdoor Living, Stanco Equipment, Dacco Mechanical & Millwright Services, National Hauling & Grading, Duplissey Racing, Penske Racing Shocks and Fastlane Signs & Graphics.
