What won the race: Powering around early leader Tristan Chamberlain as they completed the seventh lap, sixth-starting Jared Miley of Pittsburgh, Pa., led the rest of Friday's second 25-lap Connor Bobik Memorial semifeature at Marion Center Raceway. Miley beat Dustin Sorensen by 1.520 seconds for the $6,000 payday, his first victory of the season and second on the World of Outlaws Late Model tour.
Quotable: “Hats off to my brother, he put a great setup under this thing. It was good from hot laps on. It was spot on all night, almost, I kinda messed up a little bit in qualifying,” Miley said. “The track was kinda how I like it — right in the middle — and we could pretty much maneuver wherever. Thanks to everybody that makes this possible.”
Key notes: Although not a full-field feature victory, Miley earned his second career WoO checkered flag, his first since May 21, 2022, at nearby Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway, worth $10,000. ... It's his first win of any kind since last Aug. 23 in local Super Late Models at Marion Center and his first on a touring series since July 29, 2022, at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., on the United Late Model tour. ... Second-starting Tristan Chamberlain muscled his way by polesitter Ryan Montgomery and led the opening six laps before Miley ripped around him at the exit of turn four and took control on the seventh lap. ... Montgomery, who was forced high by Chamberlain's aggressive turn-three slider, spun at the entrance of turn one to trigger the race's first caution on the second lap; Montgomery rebounded to finish 10th. ... Alex Ferree reclaimed fourth from Drake Troutman on a lap-11 restart before Troutman faded to sixth at the checkers. ... Besides the lap-two spin by Montgomery, the 25-lap semifeature was slowed by four other yellow flags, including a 10-minute red flag for extended cleanup when Tyler Wyant and Paul Kot tangled out of turn four as they battled for 14th; both drivers were OK. ... Gregg Satterlee and Eli Johnson made contact on lap four as they battled inside the top 10, sending Satterlee over the turn-three cushion. ... John Garvin Jr. retired after sliding over the turn-three banking on the eighth lap. ... Braeden Dillinger slowed to draw the fifth and final stoppage on lap 11. ... After the first semifeature lasted seven minutes, the second 25-lapper took nearly 24 minutes, with 14 starters completing the distance. ... The 16th annual Connor Bobik Memorial honors 5-year-old Bobik, who died on Feb. 2, 2011, from brain cancer. … The two-day program concludes with Saturday’s 60-lap, $30,000-to-win finale.
On the move: Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., started 11th and finished fifth; Daulton Wilson of Fayetteville, N.C., started 15th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Miley’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by Blue Mountain Energy, Helltown Brewing, Optimal Transport, Jim's Automotive Plus, Corrado Farms, Penn Star Ventures, Frankland Racing Supply, Jay's Automotive and Johnson's Auto Service.
Points chase: Before Marion Center: 1. Nick Hoffman (3,063); 2. Bobby Pierce (3,057); 3. Tim McCreadie (2,871); 4. Ryan Gustin (2,857); 5. Drake Troutman (2,850); 6. Tyler Erb (2,847); 7. Ethan Dotson (2,797); 8. Daulton Wilson (2,784); 9. Dustin Sorensen (2,705); 10. Dennis Erb Jr. (2,649).
