What won the race: Leading mostly unchallenged for 50 laps from the front row, reigning tour champ Mason Zeigler of Chalk Hill, Pa., earned $5,080 on Saturday at Tyler County Speedway in the Jay's Automotive United Late Model Series opener. Zeigler took the checkers 0.777 of a second ahead of Jon Lee in the Earl Hill Memorial Topless 50.
Quotable: "It was really difficult in lapped traffic whether you should just stay in the bottom and ride or get up top and hustle it and try and get going," Zeigler said. "So fortunate we made the right moves and kept those boys behind us."
Key notes: Mason Zeigler notched his first victory since Nov. 1 at Potomac Speedway in Budds Creek, Md., when he wrapped up his Fall Clash miniseries title. ... Overcoming a penalty for taking an extra lap in time trials, Zeigler notched his eighth career ULMS victory. ... Runner-up Jon Lee and third-finishing Colten Burdette traded the second spot multiple times. ... Six cautions slowed the action, the first on the second lap for a scramble including fast qualifier K.C. Burdette, Ryan Markham and Troy Frazier. ... Brandon Weigle spun for a lap-six yellow. ... A lap-10 caution appeared for Daniel Hill. ... Travis Brown spun on the 13th lap. ... Ryan Markham drew a lap-31 yellow. ... The last yellow fell on lap 49 for Jared Miley. ... The 50-lapper lasted 30 minutes and wrapped up at 9:23 p.m. ... Fifteen drivers completed 50 laps. ... Tyler Carpenter missed the feature after getting tangled up in heat action. ... The 39th annual Earl Hill Memorial Topless 50 honored one of the track's winningest drivers who amassed more than 300 career feature victories. ... Tyler County is slated to host the United Late Model Series twice more this season, a $5,000-to-win prelim on Aug. 29 before Aug. 30’s $20,000-to-win County Roads event.
