Devin Moran celebrates his fourth career Jim Dunn Memorial victory.
What won the race: Outdueling fellow front-row starter Ryan Gustin after an early restart, Devin Moran of Dresden, Ohio, took the lead on the sixth lap at his home track and pulled away the rest of the way to capture Saturday night's 40-lap Jim Dunn Memorial at Muskingum County Speedway. Moran's second XR Super Series victory of the season came by 2.855 seconds over fifth-starting Bobby Pierce for a $15,000 payday while the pole-starting Gustin retired after a tangle with a lapped car on the 15th lap.
Quotable: "I knew it was definitely gonna be tough. When the track gets like that, it's a lot of track position," Moran said. "I was just kind of following (Gustin) and waiting to get to lapped traffic and we never did. And then he picked the top on the restart — obviously he wasn't watching me and Bobby (Pierce) racing go-karts last night — so definitely the bottom was way better. I just threw a monster slider on him and we went back and forth a couple of times there and I finally just got clear. And once I did that I felt like I was pretty decent."
Key notes: Moran, a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series regular, notched his 12th overall victory of the season and second at his home track. He won July 6's Lucas Oil event at the 4/10-mile oval. ... Four cautions slowed XRSS feature action, including on the 15th lap when second-running Gustin was collected as the lapped car driven by Rick Mardis got out of shape entering turn three, taking both cars over the banking. ... Lap 32 had three yellows, first for Clint Keenan and then on successive restarts for turn-one pileups of at least a half-dozen mid-pack cars (the second one including Gregg Satterlee and R.J. Conley). ... Kevin Smith drew the first caution on the fifth lap. ... Tanner McLoughlin scratched from the feature. ... Semi-retired Eddie Carrier Jr. piloted Steve Weigle's car. ... The event honored inaugural Dirt Track World Champion Jim Dunn. ... Retired racer Bart Hartman drove Dunn's tribute car in parade laps. ... Muskingum hosted the lone September XRSS event after six other races were cancelled or postponed.
On the move: Tripp Gerrald of Lexington, Ky., started 12th and finished fifth.
