What won the race: Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, Ga., led all 40 laps from the pole Sunday, winning the $4,050 50th annual Alabama State Championship finale at East Alabama Motor Speedway. Herrington's victory is the first of his career with the XR Southern All Star Series.
Quotable: "It's unbelievable, my Dad tried for I don't even know how long and I've gotten my butt kicked here, this is awesome, I don't even know what to say," an emotional Herrington said. "I've been running three or four classes every year, just trying to win this thing and to do it in the Super, this is awesome."
Key notes: Cody Overton of Evans, Ga., moved into the runner-up position on lap 23 and closed within striking distance of Herrington, finishing 0.852 of a second back. ... After winning Saturday's $4,050 weekend opener at EAMS, Kenny Collins of Colbert, Ga., finished third. ... Jordy Nipper of Gray, Ga., gained eight positions and finished fourth. ... Following his runner-up finish on Saturday, Austin Horton of Whitesburg, Ga., was forced off the track in turn two on lap three and recovered to finish seventh. ... Todd Morrow of East Ridge, Tenn., advanced seven spots and finished eighth. ... Sunday's feature was slowed by a 10-minute red flag when Bo Slay of Milton, Fla., went off the track just outside of turn two and required a tow truck. Slay was uninjured, but failed to complete a lap and finished 18th. ... Three cautions slowed the Alabama State Championship finale at East Alabama Motor Speedway, which lasted 29 minutes, where eight drivers completed all 40 laps.
On the move: Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., started 17th and finished fifth.
