Chase Junghans heads for victory at Lakeside Speedway.
What won the race: Gaining the lead on lap three, second-starting Chase Junghans of Manhattan, Kan., paced the remaining distance at Lakeside Speedway on Friday, cruising to win the 30-lap Clyde Ellis Memorial feature and $5,000. The victory was the second of Junghans's career with the Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association.
Key notes: After leading the first two laps from the pole, Andrew Kosiski of Omaha, Neb., settled for the runner-up position, 3.894 seconds back. ... Aaron Marrant of Richmond, Mo., ran inside the top-three all race and finished third. ... Both Kosiski and Marrant registered career-vest MLRA finishes. ... Ninth-starting Payton Looney of Republic, Mo., moved into fourth on lap 20 and finished there. ... Originally scheduled to start sixth, Justin Zeitner of Malvern, Iowa, suffered engine problems before the main event's pace laps and was unable to take the green flag, relegating him to a 20th-place finish. ... Originally scheduled to start from the pole, Tony Jackson Jr., of Lebanon, Mo., winner of two of the last three MLRA races, discovered engine problems and failed to make the call for the feature; he was credited with 21st. ... The A-main lasted 16 minutes with 10 competitors completing all 30 laps. ... The Clyde Ellis Memorial honored the late auto racing supporter who passed away in 2013. Ellis, a 2004 inductee to the Central Auto Racing Boosters Hall of Fame and Museum, set the standard high for supporting races through the his Seeburg Muffler in North Kansas City.
