Bobby Pierce captured his record-breaking 19th WoO victory of 2026.
What won the race: Second-starting Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., commanded all 60 laps of Saturday’s Hawkeye 100 at Maquoketa Speedway, cruising to a 4.7-second victory and $25,000 payday while notching a record-breaking 19th World of Outlaws Late Model Series triumph of the season. Pierce had shared the previous single-season record of 18 victories with Brandon Sheppard, who reached the mark in 2017 and ’19, and Josh Richards, who did so in 2016.
Quotable: "That’s awesome (to win a record 19th series race in a season). I never thought that would’ve happened, that’s for sure," Pierce said. "It took me forever to get an Outlaw win, until 2021. By that time, I’d already won the World and the North-South years before that, before I won my first Outlaws race."
Key notes: Hudson O’Neal claimed the inaugural Iowa Speedweek title based on his performance across four races — FloRacing Night in America events Aug. 18 at Marshalltown and Aug. 19 at Mason City, followed by the Aug. 21-22 World of Outlaws weekend at Maquoketa. O’Neal earned a $2,500 bonus as champion of the Hawkeye State Great 8 points fund. … The race was stopped for a 13-minute red flag on lap three after an eight-car pileup that began when Clay Stuckey appeared to spin in turns three and four, triggering an accordion effect that collected Tyler Erb, Nick Hoffman, Dustin Sorensen, Justin Duty, Brent Larson, Dennis Erb Jr. and Ethan Dotson. Terbo and Hoffman both flipped onto their roofs, though Erb’s car emerged largely unscathed and he was able to continue. Hoffman’s crew made repairs in the hot pit before he also rejoined the race. Sorensen appeared to take the brunt of the wreckage and said in a DIRTVision interview that “I wouldn’t have gotten into Nick,” but added, “I got hit from behind.” … Dennis Erb Jr. and Nick Hoffman salvaged top-10 finishes of eighth and ninth, respectively. Tyler Erb, who also continued, narrowly missed joining them in the top 10, finishing 11th just two-tenths of a second behind 10th-finishing Jason Feger. … Ricky Thornton Jr.’s race ended with a reported engine failure after he slowed from fifth on lap 16. Losing all power and unable to make it safely to the hot pit, Thornton came to a stop and drew the caution on lap 17. … Ryan Gustin drew the caution running 19th on lap 14 when he ran off the track and slowed; he salvaged a 12th-place run. … Eleven drivers finished on the lead lap and 19 drivers were running at the finish in the 33-minute feature.
On the move: Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., started 24th and finished eighth.
