What won the race: Oakley Johns of Hohenwald, Tenn., overcame a rash of cautions to lead all 35 laps in winning Saturday's Marlin-Woods Memorial at Duck River Raceway Park for his first career Ultimate Southeast Series triumph. Johns beat ninth-starting Matt Cooper by 3.120 seconds for the $5,000 payday and his first win of any kind since March 22, 2025, at his hometown Tennessee National Raceway.
Key notes: Johns led largely unchallenged for his first major touring series win since July 29, 2023, also at Tennessee National. ... Johns notched his third career Duck River triumph, adding to a Limited Late Model victory on Oct. 1, 2022, and Nov. 23, 2024's $6,000 Gobbler payday in unsanctioned Super Late Models. ... Ninth-starting Matt Cooper was up to fourth by lap four and surged into second on a lap-18 restart, but never seriously challenged Johns. ... Former WoO regular Todd Morrow trailed Johns from laps 4-17 before giving way to Cooper and settling for third. ... Eleventh-starting Brayden Skinner took fourth-place for good on a lap-26 restart. ... The race was slowed four times, first on the fourth lap when Jay Scott and Scott Cook were eliminated. ... Fifth-running David Brannon drew the second stoppage on lap 18 and retired. ... Grayson Brewer, winner of Friday's $3,000 Duck River opener, ran as high as second in the early going before slipping to ninth by lap 20 and retired from 14th under the third yellow flag on lap 22; Jack Franklin also pulled off under the lap-22 caution. ... Seventh-running Luke Morey appeared to be eliminated under the final slowdown on lap 28. ... The 35-lapper lasted just shy of 50 minutes with 12 starters completing the distance and 16 running at the checkers.
On the move: Jason Riggs of College Grove, Tenn., started 19th and finished fifth; Chase Oliver of Crossville, Ala., started 20th and finished sixth.
