Tad Pospisil celebrates a $5,000 victory at Salt City Speedway.
What won the race: Regaining the lead when Eli Ross slowed with terminal mechanical failure on the 15th lap, polesitter Tad Pospisil of Norfolk, Neb., led the rest of Saturday's 25-lap co-sanctioned Super Dirt Showdown finale at Salt City Speedway. Pospisil beat a charging Scott Crigler to the checkers by 1.684 seconds for the $5,000 paycheck, his first career victory on the Nutrien Ag Solutions Revival Super Dirt Series and POWRi Heartland Late Model Tour.
Quotable: "It’s pretty cool to pick up a win. It was a tough break for (Eli Ross), he had a little better car, probably," Pospisil said. "We pull up into the pits and brake fluid is jumping out of our left-rear brake caliper, so we pinched the line off up here, so I’m running around here with hardly any brakes. I was OK until I got to lapped traffic and then I couldn’t slow up enough or I couldn’t charge hard enough, so that's where (Ross) got me."
Key notes: Pospisil overcame brake issues to lead all but three laps (1-11, 15-25) for his sixth overall feature win of the season, four have come on the Malvern Bank East-West sister tours. ... Revival points leader Eli Ross, winner of Friday's $3,000 Salt City opener, challenged Pospisil for much of the race's first half, eventually taking the lead with a turn-three slide job on lap 12 as they raced through lapped traffic. Ross led until driveline failure ended his night on the 15th lap, giving control back to Pospisil, who led largely unchallenged the rest of the way. ... Fifteenth-starting Scott Crigler came alive after the final restart on lap 17, advancing from sixth to second by lap 24, but ran out of time to catch Pospisil. ... Heartland points leader Sawyer Crigler, Scott's son, followed his father by Aaron Marrant on the 24th lap, dropping Marrant to fourth. ... Former WoO regular Dustin Walker climbed eight spots and rounded out the top 10. ... Besides the lap-15 caution for Ross's demise, the race was slowed three other times, including an opening lap tangle that eliminated Brandon Morton; Damian Patocka was also involved and continued until retiring on lap five. ... Delbert Smith slammed the turn-three wall on the 17th lap and required a tow to the pits. ... Jadyn Friesen spun on the ensuing restart, sending Kayden Clatt and Dan Smith sliding into each other, as they spun to avoid; Clatt and Smith retired while Friesen finished 12th, the final starter to complete 25 laps. ... The feature lasted 31 minutes with 16 starters running at the finish. ... Jake Nightingale was slated to start 13th but scratched after losing an engine in his heat race. ... Joey Smith scratched after hot laps.
On the move: Runner-up Scott Crigler of Alton, Mo., started 15th.
Winner's sponsors: Pospisil's Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Scott Bailey Racing Engine and sponsored by Signor Trucking, One Source One Solution, Window World, TB & Company, Iron Horse CPAs & Advisors, Dietz Well & Pump Co., Tu Casa Mexican Restaurant, Bad Chad Motorsports and Malvern Bank.
