Scott Crigler inherited the Comp Cams victory.
What won the race: Scott Crigler of Alton, Mo., inherited Friday's Comp Cams Super Dirt Series victory at Crowley's Ridge Raceway after apparent winner Chandler Petty failed postrace droop inspection, the series officially announced Saturday afternoon. Petty led all 30 laps Friday before his penalty dropped him to fifth. Crigler claimed his first Comp Cams victory of the season and third of his career, his first away from Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Ark.
Quotable: "The delay in ruling was due to rule clarification and discussion among series officials and to communicate effectively with all parties affected," Comp Cams announcer Wesley Gwaltney said in a statement to DirtonDirt.
Key notes: Immediately after the race, Petty didn't come to victory lane and series announcer Wesley Gwaltney said Scott Crigler was the winner because Petty had been penalized four positions for a deck-height violation. ... Crigler was informally photographed in victory lane but he wasn't interviewed as the winner during the 10-minute postrace episode. ... However, the tour's MyRacePass scoring continued to list Petty as the winner. ... Gwaltney told DirtonDirt on Saturday afternoon that Petty had officially been penalized. ... Petty and Crigler survived a last-lap scare when Morgan Bagley slowed abruptly in front of them entering turn three. ... Crigler nipped seventh-starting Brian Rickman by 0.024 of a second which would've been for the win after Crigler was held up by Bagley in the final set of turns. ... Billy Moyer Jr. and Billy Moyer finished third and fourth. ... Teenager Tyler Kuykendall gained five spots for sixth. ... The race was slowed three times, lastly on a lap-nine restart attempt when Kyle Beard and points leader Cade Dillard tangled battling for third and spun, collecting Bagley and Shane Stephens.... Beard rallied to 11th while Dillard was 15th, the final starter to complete 30 laps. ... Chance Mann slowed to draw a caution on the ninth lap. ... Timothy Culp pulled into the infield on the opening lap for the first stoppage; he failed to complete a lap along with Ryan Johnson, who fought evening-long mechanical woes. ... The race lasted 19 minutes with 18 starters running at the finish.
On the move: Cam Harris of Columbus, Miss., started 17th and finished 10th.
Winner's sponsors: Crigler’s Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by Royal Oak Charcoal, Crigler Timber Harvesting, Integra Racing Shocks, AMSOIL, Hoosier Tire Midwest, Keyser Manufacturing, VP Racing Fuels, Midwest Sheet Metal and Center Point Graphics.
