What won the race: Charging by polesitter Seth Daniels on lap 20 then overtaking race-long leader Colten Burdette on the 23rd lap, fourth-starting Rusty Schlenk of Jackson, Mich., led the final eight laps of Saturday's Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series stop at Butler Motor Speedway. Schlenk stretched his lead in the late going, beating Burdette by 1.250 seconds for the Iron-Man weekend sweep and his 43rd career series victory, the majority coming in ALMS action.
Key notes: Schlenk scored his 11th overall feature win of the season and first this year at Butler. ... Schlenk has victories in three straight starts dating back to July 25's Wood Tic at Merritt Speedway in Lake City, Mich., including Friday's Iron-Man weekend opener at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., earning more than $20,000 over that span. ... Points leader Colten Burdette fired off the outside pole and led the opening 22 laps before giving way to Schlenk and settling for second. ... Sixth-starting Chad Finley, winner of the most recent Iron-Man visit to Butler last fall, took third from polesitter Seth Daniels on the 24th lap, relegating Daniels to finish fourth. ... The 30-lap main event was slowed once by a caution on the race's initial start and lasted 10 minutes nine starters completing the distance.
On the move: Rod Conley of Wheelersburg, Ohio, started ninth and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Schlenk’s Domination Race Car is powered by a Mullins Engine and sponsored by Buckeye Concrete Coatings, Tom Finch Automotive, TriState Pole Barns, Dominator Race Products, Integra Racing Shocks, Terry Henricks Auto Group, Velocita USA, Landrum Performance Springs, VP Racing Fuel and Lubricants, Vahlco Racing Wheels, Willy’s Carbs, ML Performance Allstar Performance, Wilwood Disc Brakes and KBC Graphix.
