What won the race: Overtaking polesitter Nick Hoffman on a lap-seven restart, Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., led the rest of Tuesday's 40-lap World of Outlaws Late Model Series feature at Independence Motor Speedway. Pierce, taking the checkers 1.278 seconds ahead of eighth-starting Tyler Erb, scored his second straight Independence victory and second in a row on the WoO circuit.
Quotable: "I noticed (Hoffman) slipped just a little bit in turn one on the top, and I had a good run coming off of (turn) four on the restart," Pierce said. "There's a lot of moisture down there at the bottom of one still and I was able to get some grip down there and slingshot ahead of him."
Key notes: Running mostly unchallenged after taking command en route to his sixth WoO triumph of the season, Bobby Pierce's 48th career series victory ties him for fourth with Shane Clanton on the all-time list. ... Pierce edged back into the WoO points lead over third-place finisher Nick Hoffman, who gave up the runner-up spot to Tyler Erb on the last lap. ... Jonathan Davenport, making his Indee debut, ran second early but slipped over the turn-two banking on the fifth lap, dropping to sixth before recovering (another off-track foray on the lap-32 restart dropped him to seventh). ... Super Late Model rookie Dallon Murty started outside the front row but slipped high and out of contention on the opening lap. ... Ryan Gustin's personal three-race winning streak in non-WoO action ended; a right-front shock mount broke and cut a water line to the radiator to force him out. ... Five cautions slowed the action, the first on the seventh lap for a slowing Tyler Bruening, who was making his first start since Feb. 19. ... On the 15th lap, Derrick Stewart slid over the frontstretch banking. ... One lap later, Murty went over the turn-two banking. ... A lap-20 yellow fell for Tristan Chamberlain's departure from the racing surface. ... Daulton Wilson slowed to draw a yellow on the 32nd lap. ... Nick Hoffman's 12.549-second lap lowered the track record. ... The event was sponsored by Scott Webb Concrete.
On the move: Runner-up Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, started eighth; Ethan Dotson of Bakersfield, Calif., started 17th and finished eighth.
