What won the race: Polesitter Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa, led all 30 laps unchallenged in winning Sunday's sixth annual Weiner Nationals at Moberly Motorsports Park. Gustin crossed the line 3.319 seconds ahead of Daniel Hilsabeck for the $10,000 paycheck, his fifth feature win of the season and second straight Weiner Nationals triumph.
Key notes: Gustin grabbed his first feature win since May 2's Dairyland Showdown at Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wis., worth $40,000. ... His second consecutive Weiner Nationals marks his fourth major win at Moberly, adding to Midwest LateModel Racing Association victories in 2014 and '20. ... Daniel Hilsabeck pursued Gustin for all 30 laps, but never made a serious bid for the lead. ... Chris Simpson slipped by older brother, Chad Simpson, on the second lap and rounded out the podium finishers. ... The elder Simpson, winner of 2024's Weiner Nationals, settled for fourth. ... Eighth-starting Trevor Gundaker was forced to tag the field after an opening-lap incident then rallied to finish seventh. ... Bill Vaughn retired before completing a lap. ... Besides the first-lap caution, the race was slowed one other time on lap 23 when sixth-running Rickey Frankel retired. ... The main event lasted 16 minutes with 11 starters completing 30 laps and 16 running at the finish.
On the move: Derrick Stewart of Ainsworth, Iowa, started 10th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Gustin’s Todd Cooney-owned Infinity Race Car is powered by a Jay Dickens Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Hoker Trucking, Alan’s Seamless Gutters, Karl Auto Group, May Properties, Murty Farms, Mark Hambelton Ford, Schaeffer’s Racing Oil, FK Rod Ends, Swift Springs, VP Race Fuels, Bilstein Shocks, Dynamic Drivelines and Performance Bodies.
