Trey Mills captured his Brownstown Speedway debut.
What won the race: In his Brownstown Speedway debut, teenage Trey Mills of St. Augustine, Fla., completed an impressive sweep of the night while holding off Indiana standout Hudson O’Neal to capture Saturday’s Northern Allstars Late Model Series-sanctioned John Gill Classic. Mills led all 50 laps and collected $12,725 — the $10,000 winner’s share plus $2,725 in bonuses for setting fast time and winning the night’s first heat race and dash. Each heat winner earned a $750 bonus.
Key notes: It was the 18-year-old Mills’ second victory of 2026 when counting July's semifeature at Fairbury Speedway's Prairie Dirt Classic … Traffic enabled O’Neal to push Mills to the brink beginning on lap 36, when he repeatedly looked underneath the leader before moving up a groove and pulling alongside two laps later. O’Neal threw a slider in turns one and two on lap 39, but Mills countered by beating him to the bottom entering turn three and cleared him one lap later. O’Neal drew alongside again in turns one and two on lap 42, only for Mills to shut the door along the bottom and preserve the lead. … Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., was closing on Mills and O’Neal from third when he jumped the cushion in turns three and four on lap 44. The mistake ballooned his deficit from one second to four by the finish, though he held on for third. … Tristan Chamberlain of Richmond, Ind., brought out the first caution on lap seven running seventh. He was part of the second caution as well when he ran off the track in turns three and four on lap nine. He retired on lap 22. … Derek Groomer of Bloomington, Ind., spun at the apex of turn three running 15th to draw the second caution. … Devin Gilpin of Columbus, Ind., drew the third and final caution when he spun on lap 21 in turn four battling for fourth with Jason Jameson. … The Northern Allstars Late Model Series concluded its 2026 season with Saturday's 50-lap, $10,000-to-win John Gill Classic at Brownstown Speedway. … The event paid tribute to Gill, of Mitchell, Ind., one of UMP DIRTcar’s early stars who had his best seasons in the mid-1980s and late 90s. The 2013 Hall of Fame inductee earned UMP weekly titles in 1986-’87 and credits his 1994 and ’96 Jackson 100 victories at Brownstown as some of the biggest wins of his career. … The Northern Allstars inaugural Hall of Fame class inducted Steve Barnett, Jeff Wilson, Doug McCammon, Don O’Neal and Terry Eaglin.
On the move: Chad Stapleton of Edinburgh, Ind., started 17th and finished sixth.
