Tyler Erb takes the checkers for $20,000 on Saturday.
What won the race: Taking command shortly after a restart and leading the final 12 laps, Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, completed a Labor Day weekend sweep at Portsmouth Raceway Park, adding Saturday's $20,000 payday to Friday's $5,000 triumph. The third-starting Erb overtook polesitter and race-long leader Nick Hoffman in winning the 50-lapper at the newly reopened track.
Key notes: Light arrived just as Tyler Erb reached victory lane; the track moved the Super Late Model feature up in the program to beat threatening weather. ... Erb took the checkers 1.619 seconds ahead of runner-up Nick Hoffman, who led 38 laps. ... Josh Rice ran second from outside the front row the first 13 laps, but slipped back to fourth on a restart. ... Four cautions slowed the race, the first on the 14th lap for a retiring Brandon Weigle. ... On the 19th lap, Michael Chilton slammed the backstretch wall. ... On the 38th lap, 12th-running Seth Daniels blew a tire (Eddie Carrier Jr. retired from 10th just before that). ... On the 48th lap, sixth-running Justin Cooper blew a tire. ... The 24-minute feature concluded at 10:01 p.m. ... Eight of 18 starters were running at the finish and six completed 50 laps. ... Michigan driver Bill Bray scratched from the feature. ... The event wrapped up a Labor Day doubleheader for the Jent family of Hillsboro, Ky., who this summer purchased and reopened the 3/8-mile facility. ...
