Jason Feger (25) makes the winning pass on the backstretch.
What won the race: Executing a daring three-wide pass under Tanner English and Sam Seawright just after a lap-19 restart, fifth-starting Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., led the final 10 laps in winning Thursday's 30-lap DIRTcar Summer Nationals stop at Lincoln Speedway. Feger was unchallenged over the race's final third and beat English by 0.956 of a second for the $5,000 payday, his fifth Summer Nationals victory of the season and 40th of his career, giving him sole possession of fifth on the tour's all-time list.
Quotable: “I was really hoping that (lap-19) restart would play out just like it did there. I don’t think I would’ve been able to pass (English and Seawright) if they wouldn’t have starting sliding each other like that," Feger said. "I was the only one up front there really committed to the bottom, I just don’t think they knew kinda what was down there and how to run it.”
Key notes: Sam Seawright led the initial start before Ethan Dotson's turn-four spin negated the opening start, allowing Tanner English to take control on the second start attempt. ... English led until a lap-19 caution changed the complexion of the race, erasing his near 1.5-second advantage. ... Seawright used a turn-three slide job by English to take the lead on the lap-19 restart before sliding too high and backing his right-rear quarterpanel into the turn-four wall, allowing English to get back underneath as they banged doors at the completion of the 19th lap. ... Feger used momentum out of turn two and passed both English and Seawright in a three-wide move down the backstretch, clearing the frontrunners and taking control out of turn four on lap 21. ... Feger captured his eighth overall stateside triumph and his 11th Lincoln special dating back to 2009. ... He now has five career Summer Nationals wins at Lincoln (2010, '22-24, '26). ... English notched his sixth runner-up finish and 12th top five in 13 Hell Tour starts this season. ... Seawright faded to sixth late. ... Luke Morey rode Lincoln's hub from seventh-to-third on lap 24 before ninth-starting Jake Little took third in the final laps. ... Trey Mills, who held second from laps 2-18, rounded out the top five. ... Besides Dotson's turn-four spin, the race was slowed two other times, including for debris from Rusty Schlenk's right-front nosepiece on lap 19; Schlenk soldiered to place seventh with the missing bodywork. ... Mike Spatola slowed for the final stoppage on the 23rd circuit before continuing to finish 18th, the final starter to complete 30 laps. ... The race lasted just shy of 19 minutes with 19 starters running at the finish.
On the move: Jake Little of Springfield, Ill., started ninth and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Feger’s Longhorn Chassis has a Clements Racing Engine with sponsorship from Titan Industries, SC Online Sales, Hoker Trucking, The Big Cheese MM, Out-Pace Racing Products, CorrosionX, Multi Fire Wires, RemTek Enterprises, RLM Enterprises, Cheap Cars, FK Rod Ends, Keyser Manufacturing, Stealth Racing Carburetors, Speedwerx, Rosser Battery, Ohlins by Longhorn Dynamics, Schaeffer’s Racing Oil, Wehrs Machine, VP Racing Fuels, Griffin Sign Shop and Limelight Graphics.
