Shane Clanton topped the podium in Cochran, Ga.
What won the race: Inheriting the lead when Wil Herrington retired with a broken left-front upper control arm under a lap-29 caution, seventh-starting Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga., led the final 12 laps of Friday's inaugural Robin Wynn Memorial at Cochran Motor Speedway. Clanton crossed the line 5.366 seconds ahead of Austin Horton to claim the $5,121 payday and his 15th career Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series triumph.
Quotable: “The car was awesome tonight. This race track, this facility, it was rough there in qualifying, but it widened out enough where you could do some slide jobs,” Clanton said. “I was just biding my time there, I was waiting to get into lapped traffic hard and heavy with Wil (Herrington). He had a good car and drove a smart race there, just trying to make the right moves at the right time. Overall, a good night though.”
Key notes: Clanton took control when Wil Herrington pulled in under a lap-29 caution with left-front suspension damage before claiming his first feature win since last Aug. 9's Clash at the Mag at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss., worth $12,000 on the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series. ... It was his first SAS victory since a $10,000 payday on July 13, 2024, at Tennessee's Thunderhill Raceway. ... Third-starting Herrington, of Hawkinsville, Ga., led laps 22-28. ... Second-starting Jordy Nipper paced the opening 21 circuits before giving way to Herrington and finishing fourth. ... Polesitter Austin Horton slipped as low as fifth in the opening laps before climbing back to finish second. ... Jeremy Steele pursued Nipper in the early going before fading as low as sixth then rallied to finish third. ... Allen Styck and points leader Tucker Anderson each improved five positions to finish fifth and sixth, respectively. ... The race was slowed by four cautions over the opening four laps, then two additional stoppages over the remainder of the 40-lapper. ... Hadley Greene and Will Hicks tangled during the race's start attempt before Greene brought out additional yellow flags on lap 20 and 29. ... Billy Franklin slowed from fifth with right-rear suspension issues on the fourth lap and was credited 18th as the first retiree. ... The feature lasted 28 minutes with 10 starters completing the distance and 12 running at the checkers.
On the move: Cruz Skinner of Calera, Ala., started 18th and finished 10th.
