Fast qualifier Drake Troutman led all the way to win the first heat. ... Bobby Pierce nipped race-long leader Tim McCreadie in a photo finish the final lap of the second heat. ... Ryan Montgomery spun out of the fourth position late in the second heat. ... In a thrilling third heat, Daulton Wilson twice dove under early leader Nick Hoffman — once in turn one and once in turn three — then edged him in another near-photo finish. Wilson, who led the final four laps, apologized for contact with Hoffman, saying the pressure of third-finishing Boom Briggs got him up on the wheel.
