Shootout recap
In the first 15-lapper, Brian Shirley outdueled fellow front-row starter Ryan Gustin early and late, winning by a half-second; the race ran caution-free. ... The victory puts Shirley, running a No. 8 instead of his usual No. 3s as a tribute to team owner Bob Cullen, landed on the pole for the semifeature. ... Fourth-starting Carson Ferguson won the second shootout after taking command on the fourth lap; Brenden Smith led the first three laps and settled for fifth. ... In the second 15-lapper, a lap-four caution flag flew for last year's World 100 winner Ricky Thornton Jr., who had a flat tire running 11th. ... Tyler Thomason slowed for a caution on the sixth lap. ... Ashton Winger led all the way in the third shootout. ... The third 15-lapper was halted after one completed lap for a slowing Justin Duty, who had nose damage after backstretch contact with Tyler Carpenter while Jonathan Davenport pitted with right-rear body damage after turn-two contact with Carpenter. That was the lone caution.
