Charlie McKenna heads for victory at Scotland County.
What won the race: Winning for the second time in three series races, Charlie McKenna of Ames, Iowa, earned $3,000 Saturday at Scotland County Speedway on the Malvern Bank East Series. The second-starting McKenna kept the fourth-starting Jake Neal in check all race long, winning by 0.620 of a second in the 25-lapper.
Quotable: "You knew if you bobbled once, Jake (Neal) was gonna have you, and so you just had to try to keep pressure," McKenna said. "And then we got to the lappers, and were kind of running where I wanted to be, and I wasn't sure what I was gonna do with them. And then somebody bobbled and I was able to kind of pick a way through. And then it's like, 'Well, I wonder if there was room for Jake to get through there too or not ... I didn't know if he made it or not, but I thought, 'Man, I just squeezed through. I can't believe he got through too.' "
Key notes: Charlie McKenna, who won a week earlier at Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa, notched his fifth career Malvern East triumph. ... Polesitter Jacob Hobscheidt finished fourth. ... Third-place finisher Tad Pospisil, fresh off Wednesday's Malvern East victory at Oskaloosa's Southern Iowa Speedway, nearly lost control in turn three amid contact with C.J. Horn at the end of the backstretch. ... Two cautions slowed the action, the first on the second lap for right-side flat tires, among other issues, for Ron Boyse; he retired. ... On the third lap, for a pileup in turn four involving Tyler Imhoff, Curt Schroeder, Fred Remley and Paul Glendenning. ... The 13-minute feature concluded at 9:45 p.m. ... Troy Morris III scratched from the feature lineup.
On the move: Tad Pospisil of Norfolk, Neb., started sixth and finished third.
