Jonathan Davenport led all 40 laps of Friday's first preliminary feature.
What won the race: Two-time Show-Me 100 winner Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., ran 40 laps virtually unchallenged in Friday's first preliminary feature at Lucas Oil Speedway for a $10,000 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory. The outside front-row starter took the checkers 3.666 seconds ahead of fourth-starting Chris Ferguson in winning the Tribute to Don & Billie Gibson, honoring Show-Me 100 founders.
Quotable: "Man, this racetrack changed like five different times during that feature, and I think it was about to change one more time once we started rolling through that middle and blowing those wet crumbs back to the top," Davenport said. "I felt like just any minute I was about to go back to the top there, and then I seen there wasn't but five laps left."
Key notes: Jonathan Davenport, winning his 10th overall feature of the season (and third at Lucas Oil Speedway), notched his 88th career full-field Lucas Oil victory. ... A single caution slowed the action on the second lap for a Garrett Alberson spin; he retired (Alberson was in a backup car after a violent rollover in heat action). ... Polesitter Josh Rice wasn't a factory in finishing eighth. ... Last year's Show-Me 100 winner Bobby Pierce was a lap down in 22nd. ... Ricky Thornton Jr. was running seventh on the 18th lap when he nearly lost control in turn four, losing a few spots and then fading. ... The 14-minute feature concluded at 9:07 p.m. ... Thursday's makeup feature will cap the night and all the preliminary results will set Saturday's heat lineups for the $75,000-to-win 34th annual Show-Me 100. ... Watch live on FloRacing.
On the move: Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., started 14th and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Davenport’s Double L Motorsports Longhorn Chassis carries sponsorship from Ace Doran, Nutrien Ag Solutions, ASC Warranty, Mark Martin Automotive, Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas, Mount Airy Polaris, Bilstein Shocks, VP Racing Fuels, Dyer’s Top Rods, Go Lithium Batteries and Midwest Sheet Metal.
Points chase: After Wheatland's first Friday preliminary feature: 1. Hudson O’Neal (3,145); 2. Brandon Sheppard (3,000); 3. Devin Moran (2,985); 4. Brandon Overton (2,860); 5.
